Hog Loppet? What is that? Hog Loppet
loosely translated from Swedish is a citizen’s high-country ski
trek.
This year I was able to talk Bob Kievit,
friend an avid TAE customer, into going with me. I first had to
explain what it was, but it didn’t take long for him to say yes. I
later found out that several other TAE customers were
participating. We were joined by Julie Smith, Maxine Dunkleman,
Lynn Murphy and Steve Thompson.
This years Hog Loppet would start at the
top of Mission Ridge ski area and conclude at Blewett Pass. The
route would take us through some ungroomed Backcountry areas and
down a groomed trail to Blewett Pass. Throughout the route we had
spectacular views to the north and south. The weather was perfect…
we were able to see Mt Rainier, Mt Adams, Glacier Peak and Mt
Stuart. I am surpised that anyone made it to the finish line…as it
was hard not to just stop and stare at these picturesque views.
All in all I would say this was an
excellent trip and would strongly recommend it. The Hog Loppet is a
non-competitive race with about 500 participants.
