January 20, 2008
Alpine
owners Steve & Val Hyer were joined by Jennifer,
Patrick, Logan and Chase Hyer-Long on a recent snowshoe
trip at Paradise. It was cold and blowing hard but even
the youngest of the group made the easy and well marked
loop trail that is great for families. The snow was
deep and soft and Logan enjoyed falling down a lot
(mostly on purpose). Having the right clothing makes
all the difference. We finished the trip back at the
visitor center where we warmed up over a hot chocolate
and lunch.
The
road to Paradise was well plowed and remained that way
throughout the day in spite of the fresh snow fall.
There were several groups at Paradise, parking was
plentiful and we only saw a few people on the trail. We
highly recommend this short family snowshoe experience
just outside the door of the Visitor Center. The center
is a great place to get out of the cold and enjoy a sack
lunch or order something hot from their snack bar. Free
guided snowshoe trips are also offered by the Rangers at
the Visitor Center.
