Boy, what I will
do for a free
dinner.
Alex White and I
were joking
around in the
shop the other
day about ski
goals for this
season and what
developed was a
little friendly
wager.
The
first one to ski
50 days buys the
other dinner of
the winners
choosing. Any
dinner
recommendations
are welcome.

We came up with
a few guidelines
to help us out
too. A day
skiing is
loosely defined
by a day or part
of a day on
skis. Lift
served counts.
Touring counts.
XC skiing
counts. The
point is to get
out and ski
more.
The number
seemed like a
good goal, it
will be
challenging to
get 50 days, but
possible, and I
think realistic.
The other
guideline we
decided on was
that we start
the new season
in Oct. at zero
days. To
commence our new
challenge we set
out to ski the
first day of our
new season
together on Oct
14th.
Another
fellow TAE
staffer, Alex
Bryan also made
the trek up to
Rainier with us
to ski day 1 of
the 07-08
season.
We set out from
Paradise (5400’)
with sunny skies
and were blessed
with a beautiful
fall day. We
cruised in shoes
up to Pebble
Creek and around
7k traded shoes
for boots. I
pulled out the
skins. Alex B.
is new to the NW
backcountry and
struggled with
snowshoes and
alpine boots and
Whitey attempted
his first
skinning
experience.
Great job guys!!
You can see
these guys in
the picture
below getting a
taste of really
earning your
turns.
We
made the
transition above
the “Pebble
Patch” and were
rewarded with
some great Oct
turns. It was a
great way to
start the new
season. #1 is in
the bag. I’m
really looking
forward to some
more days out,
and for the
winter storms to
start up.
